Bringing the Outdoors In

The central design concept behind the renovation of the oncology department at the NCH Downtown Bakers Hospital was creating an interior environment that reflected the local beauty of Naples’ beaches.

Corridors are lined with a sequences of images shot on a local beach, so each journey through the department is reminiscent of a calm stroll down a sandy shore.

A serenity room provides patients recliners, reading materials, and a large display made of 9 monitors that streams a 24 hour video loop of a nearby beach, while surround sound speakers play the sounds of crashing waves and a gentle sea-breeze.
